I went to the Mingei Exhibition at the Kyoto Ceramic Art Museum in Kyoto wearing a kimono.

The Mingei Exhibition

Mingei means folk crafts.

It is a way of thinking that finds beauty in the practical works created by artisans and craftsmen.

Many Kyoto artists, including Kanjiro Kawai, expressed their support.

This folk art exhibition features works by numerous artists and a collection of gathered items.

Regardless of ideology, many of the works were enjoyable for their simplicity, power, and uniqueness.

The Beauty of Folk Crafts

Kyoto potter Kanjiro Kawai creates not only ceramics but also various other works.

The wooden statue above depicts a mother and child.

Both of them have adorable, plump cheeks.

Their love and happiness come through.

I really love Kawai Kanjiro’s works because they convey his affection and thoughts about life.

I believe folk art expresses the very essence of the people’s strength and their honest way of life.

Museum Garden

Looking out from the museum into the garden, the outside world appeared dazzlingly bright.

The Kyocera Museum of Art has a beautiful garden.

It was a beautiful garden with pines and a pond.

It was still hot, but it’s autumn.

Many dragonflies were flying.

I felt as though our ancestors taught us not to recognize beauty only in things that are expensive and rare, but to find beauty in the things close to us.

I want to share the beauty of kimono with the world.

At the same time, I want to share with the world the beautiful and wonderful things that have existed in Japan since ancient times.
